Urban and Periurban Agriculture

• [August, 2022] The last Committee meeting objective was to validate the guide structure, contents and key-messages. The feedback was very positive and proactive regarding how members of the Committee will mainstream the guide through their own networks.
• [June, 2022] In the second meeting, the Committee contributed to deepening questions about how to map and visualize the different benefits of urban and peri-urban agriculture according to their typologies, as well as to list central aspects to consider in the theory of change.
• [May, 2022] The first Technical/Steering Committee meeting counted 40 members from 24 institutions & 5 Brazilian regions. The objective was to refine the initial scope, in three senses: 1) how to treat the great heterogeneity observed among 5.565 Brazilian municipalities; 2) challenges and opportunities for urban and peri-urban agriculture; 3) existing instruments, incentives, programs and public policies at municipal level.
• [April, 2022] To assist the guide´s development a Technical/Steering Committee was created with stakeholders from different regions and profiles (academy, social movement, managers and farmers).
• [March, 2022] After several rounds of revision and exchanges, an initial scope for the guide is agreed between three institutions and prepared to be shared with stakeholders.
• [February, 2022] TEEBAgriFood and the Ministry of Citizenship invited Getulio Vargas Foundation to jointly develop a guide for assessing and developing Urban and Peri-urban agendas at municipal level.
• [December, 2021] TEEBAgriFood team received a demand from the Ministry of Citizenship, which carries the National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program, to provide qualified information for inserting agriculture in urban planning.
• [August, 2021] After publishing the research with Instituto Escolhas, the TEEBAgriFood Initiative presented those results to stakeholders from different levels (federal, state and municipal). The purpose of collecting this feedback was to capture specific demands among decision makers on how to mainstream sustainable urban and peri-urban agriculture.
• [June, 2021] Instituto Escolhas, in partnership with the TEEB AgriFood Initiative, promoted the launch of the study “Beyond food: the contribution of urban agriculture to well-being in the metropolis of São Paulo”. The launch event counted with 70 participants and promoted a debate among academics and researchers on how agriculture in cities can contribute on improving living conditions.
